May 2020 - Lyndi Liersemann

Lyndi’s history at Tierra goes way back - she has taken classes on and off since the fall of 2012!! We’re always thrilled to see her return for another class as she adds loads of positive energy and friendly support to any group she enrolls in. At the moment she is busy being a new Mama to her 1-month old baby, so we consider one silver lining to the coronavirus reality as being that Lyndi, and others who would not be able to attend classes in person right now, are able to join in online! A thoughtful and enthusiastic student, she embodies that balance of someone who actively participates and asks great questions while also yielding space to classmates and contributing to the cohesion of the group. We’re so glad to count Lyndi as a valued member of our Tierra community!

Name: Lyndi Liersemann
Occupation: Fundraiser
Time Studying at Tierra: Since 2012

1) Why are you studying Spanish?

"I used to live and work in South America and picked up the language by talking to others. When I moved back to the US I didn't want to lose all the Spanish I'd worked so hard to learn. I never got the chance to learn correct grammar, so classes at Tierra were long overdue."

2) What is your favorite part about your experience here at Tierra?

"I love the teachers! They are all so patient and passionate about helping students improve their language ability. The small class sizes mean you get meaningful practice every week."

3) Can you tell us of a time you have been able to use what you have learned studying here?

"My job has sent me to Puerto Rico on several occasions and I've been able to speak to my colleagues who don’t speak English. It's been an enormous benefit to be a productive member of my global team. It also made traveling in Mexico and Spain much easier and a much richer experience."

¡Felicidades Laura!
