Name: Laura Valent
Occupation: Teacher
Time Studying at Tierra: Since its opening (2 years ago)

1) Why are you studying Spanish?
"I am studying Spanish in order to work with the Latino community especially teenagers. I have been working with teenagers for 8 years and a few years ago I recognized the need for Spanish speaking teachers in order to help families be involved with their children's schooling and to help the students succeed in school. I just gained my Masters in Teaching to teach Middle School/High School Spanish and plan to go on to get my ESL endorsement."

2) What is your favorite part about your experience here at Tierra?
"I like Tierra because of the great teachers and staff. They are flexible and use a variety of strategies to help all students learn the language. The teachers care about their students and work tirelessly to create the best program with a variety of courses and opportunities for students who want to learn Spanish. "

3) Can you tell us of a time you have been able to use what you have learned studying here?
"Everyday! I work with Latino youth so I am able to use Spanish with them and their families. My teacher also gives me a lot of resources that I can use in my free time in order to improve my Spanish and gain more knowledge about the Spanish speaking world."

Congratulations Laura!!
