Homework Assignments

Each lesson will be followed by a comprehension quiz and written activities, which will be the homework assignments for each week. You must pass the quiz and submit the written materials by the Friday of that week in order to advance to the next week’s lesson.

The comprehension quiz will be completed directly in the Online Course system. Questions on the quiz may be in the form of multiple choice, true or false, or matching. The purpose of these questions is to direct your attention to the most important concepts studied and to help us to evaluate your level of understanding. You must achieve a minimum score of 70% in order to pass the quiz. Upon completing the quiz you will find out whether or not you achieved a passing score. If you do not pass you will be given a chance to study more and complete the quiz again.

The written activities will be made up of two parts:

1. Short answer questions related to the lesson material.
2. Translation exercises which emulate the types of documents you will typically be needed to translate at DCS in which you will apply the concepts learned in the lesson.

The written activities need to be copied and pasted and submitted by e-mail to: translation@tierracenter.com. You will need to copy and paste both the questions and your responses into either a Word Document or directly into an e-mail. We encourage you to use Word and to send the homework as an attachment, but this is not required. We will correct and evaluate each homework assignment, providing detailed feedback about both the quiz and the written assignments, which we will return to you sometime during the week after you turn it in.
