Isabel López hails from a small fishing town called Garrucha, located in the province of Almería in southern Spain. She received her bachelor’s degree in Humanities from the Universidad de Almería, and a masters in Migration and Social Intervention studies from the same university. She studied English and French in school, and spent a year of her university studies in the beautiful Dijon, France. After spending three fascinating years living abroad in China, she ended up moving to the US and settling in Portland.
Isabel’s first experience teaching Spanish was with Moroccan immigrants during her master’s program. She loved the experience of teaching her native language so much, that she felt sure this was what she wanted to continue doing professionally for the rest of her life.
Isabel loves the environment at Tierra and has been teaching Spanish here since 2016. She feels grateful for the opportunity to meet such motivated and interesting students and to work with an amazing team of other teachers from different Spanish-speaking countries around the world. She strives to offer fun and dynamic classes in which students can be relaxed and feel comfortable learning in a supportive environment. She aims to transmit her passion for the Spanish language and curiosity to learn about other cultures to her students.
In her free time, Isabel enjoys cooking, hiking and exploring the outdoors, going to the movies, reading, and spending time with her husband and daughter. She also loves music; she enjoys playing the saxophone and dancing.
