This winter Tierra is offering an advanced book seminar on Balún Canan, the exceptional novel by Mexican author Rosario Castellanos, through which students will explore the realities of post-revolutionary Mexico, the legacy of colonialism, and the fascinating history of Chiapas and the mayan indigenous communities that are rooted there. It is a great opportunity to polish your Spanish reading and speaking skills while taking a deep dive into history and cultural learning. The reading will be done as homework with class time focused on discussion. This course will continue in the Spring Term, to cover the second half of the book.
