Course Description: In this unique cultural immersion course, intermediate students will sharpen their Spanish skills while exploring some of the most fascinating monuments of Mexico! Providing a lens through which to appreciate the history and culture of Mexico, the monuments will represent a wide range of styles and time periods. From pre-hispanic pyramids to colonial castles, from markers of historical memory to expansive churches and notable contemporary buildings and museums, these monuments will provide a springboard from which to jump into discussion about many topics.
The course will be taught by Tierra instructor Alfredo Schultz, who completed his undergraduate studies in architecture and worked in that field before turning his attention toward teaching Spanish. Born in Mexico City, Alfredo grew up in Northern Mexico in Chiuahua and had the privilege to travel extensively throughout his native land. He is passionate about sharing his knowledge of Mexico’s amazing heritage and patrimony with students.

Through research, class presentations, multi-media resources, and group discussion, this highly participatory course will expand your knowledge about the rich and complex history of Mexico, introduce you to some of the most intriguing sights, and provide you the opportunity to practice and improve all aspects of your language skills - speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
